Week One of Advent....HOPE

With the start of the Holiday Season, as a Christian.....

I celebrate the start of the season with

Advent

The first Week of Advent is

HOPE

As we journey together we
walk in the light of Hope, trusting that God will bring us hope as God has in the past, and we can be assured will do again.

Advent is....

For many centuries, the Church has identified the

beginning of the Christmas celebration with a time of reflection and expectation called Advent.

The word Advent means "coming" or "arrival" and, when used in conjunction with Christmas, reminds us of the anticipation and expectation held over hundreds of years by the people of Israel for their Messiah and promised King.

For centuries before Christ, Hebrew rabbis methodically and passionately taught the Jewish people that Messiah was coming. They taught that the people should be ready to embrace their King when he appeared. They emphasized the need for holy living and obedience to God's law.

This explains how the lowliest shepherds and fishermen of that day were acquainted with the promises of a Messiah. This season of preparation was all by God's design.

Today, we mark Advent in the Christian church with the display of a wreath - its circle reminds us of God Himself, eternal and endlessly merciful. It is evergreen - reminding us of the hope of eternal life.

The four outer candles incorporated into the display represent the time of waiting and preparation for the Messiah during the four Sundays of Advent (thought by many theologians to represent the four hundred years of prophetic silence between Malachi and the angelic visitations of the Gospels).

The light of the candles reminds us of the Light of world, and the prophetic promise of His coming. The white central candle of the Advent wreath, lighted at Christmas, reminds us of the fulfillment of His first Advent and the pure, humble means by which He came.

I Love A Parade....

Today I will be attending our town's Annual Holiday Parade....
I love a parade at any time of the year
But I Especially love a Holiday Parade
There is nothing more exciting at any age
waiting for that first glimpse of
Santa

I have two favorite places I like to sit and watch the parade,
the first choice being near the judges stand and of course the food
If I am unable to find a spot at my first choice
I then move down the street a bit and watch from a friends
business along the parade route on Main Street....
The second location is a bit farther from the Hot Chocolate
and Hot Dogs, but its worth the walk...

After the parade is the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the,
oh so Humble Square in Myerstown...

This Christmas Tree is a Huge Evergreen that had been planted many years ago..
It sits patiently from year to year on the corner intersection waiting for the one time of the year all the town folks gather around singing Christmas Carols and it shines so brightly with all the beautiful adorned white lights....

Secret Santa Christmas Swap...

I recently participated in a Christmas Swap hosted by

Jenn at...
http://bittersweetfixinsnprimitives.blogspot.com/

My Secret Santa was Beth from

http://myprimcottage.blogspot.com/

Instead of taking a group picture of my gifts, I placed them throughout my home and took the pictures. I am sad to say, I won't be doing a lot of decorating this year, with a grown Son and my Husband and I leaving for Texas on the 27th of December to spend the remainder of the Holiday with my brother and his family, I have decided to keep the Holiday decorations to a very minimum...

My gifts from Beth above are...

Peace Ornament, Christmas box filled with Holiday Potpourri, The Card behind the Christmas Box, Three Snowmen Ornaments, star candle with greens, Christmas Stocking and the "Honor Christmas In Your Heart" Towel....

Thank You, Beth....!!
Your Gifts are beautiful and I love each one!! They have found their own niche in my Home....

Thanks to Jenn for organizing this Christmas Swap and her hard work that goes into such an event...

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Giving Thanks....NO Thanks!!!

No Thanks....!!!

Here is the first snow fall of the Season in my corner of the world......Spring is how many days away???

For those who truly know me, I am not a big fan of Winter. Any and every chance I get, I head to warmer climate during the Winter months...

I do love to watch it snow, there is nothing more relaxing then to sit wrapped in a warm blanket, a soft fire burning in the fireplace and to watch it snowing. To see the freshly fallen snow before it's disturbed.....There is something so Innocent about Freshly Fallen Snow....And then after that first snow fall, Is it Spring yet??

Giving Thanks..Baking

Yesterday I pulled out the Pumpkin Treats.... I made two Pumpkin Pies this past Friday, one for a good Friend's Birthday and the second one was placed in the freezer for Thanksgiving..

Yes, my Mother would be a little disappointed if she knew her daughter placed a homemade pie in the Freezer for Thanksgiving two weeks away!! I have learned over the years, one can freeze just about anything...and it tastes as though it had been made fresh that very same day.

As I placed a pie into the freezer, I pulled out a Pumpkin Roll from my freezer. I usually have Pumpkin Rolls made and kept frozen. I like to keep several Rolls on hand for when I need a quick and tasty dessert in a pinch. Yesterday was that day when My 20 Year Old son mentioned he was attending a Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by his Boy Scout Troop where he has earned his Eagle Scout.....My memory served me correctly, remembering Mom's were always asked to bring a dessert for the dinner and the Men and Scouts prepared the meal...so I could not let my son attend empty handed......

Baking is one of my favorite things to do....desserts sure are tasty!

Giving Thanks..Little Quiet Friends

Giving Thanks for those Quiet Little Friends who have a way of sneaking up on you...

For the past three weeks, I have had a little visitor in the mornings.
This little friend comes quietly up my brick walk along my red burning bushes, she stops and put her nose into the air. You can actually see her sniffing as if she smells my morning coffee freshly brewing, as I watch her all so very quietly out my kitchen window.....

I have been trying for two weeks to capture this mischievous, hairy and oh so fast little friend.
This morning I got lucky...!!

She hopped down the brick walk, looked over at the window, and took off for the rock I have directly out side my kitchen window!!!

I was so excited, I slowly and quietly retrieved my camera. She had no idea she was posing for me. I was afraid to move, but did manage to capture some photos from the window. I then decided to walk as slow and quiet as I was able to my Sun Room, hoping to get a more clear picture....

To my disappointment, she was Gone as quickly and quietly as she appears each morning...

Giving Thanks..

Giving Thanks.....For the little things

As I am gathering all my material and organizing what I need to start my Christmas Crafts, I found myself having to go on the full blown, tear down the walls, look in every room, closet and basement search for my glue gun...that worn out shoe box that has kept my one and only glue gun safe for too many years to mention, is forever burned in my brain...as I am frantically searching, I found myself repeating the size, color and "do you know how long I have had that glue gun"??? I need to find it, its a part of me, I simply can not go out and purchase a new one, I have way too many memories making new crafts and repairing old..that gun has never failed me..! The thought of not having it for this years Christmas Crafts was just way too much to comprehend....

At last.....Big Sigh

It was found, tucked away in its shoe box minding it's own business in the basement...

Now, to find those scissors...I know I have them...???

Day Eleven....Flexibility

Flexibility....Giving Thanks for that five syllable word.

I learned the "How To" at a young age...not knowing I was doing the action.

Have you ever had the privilege of watching someone who just does not have the ability to be...
Flexible!!

It can be quite amusing...!!!

I personally do not see this as a Gender issue. I have worked with and personally know male and female who have or do not have the gift of being...

Flexible..

I learned from the best..
Thanks, Mom and have a Happy Birthday with Dad!

Day Ten....Bargin

Giving Thanks on this day would be for the ability to find a bargin....

I saved so much money Tuesday on supplies for Holiday Crafts, simply by taking advantage of pre season sales, coupons and discount stores...

I am a stickler for...Quality

If I can find what my need is without going out of my way, and the quality of the product is within my approval...I am a very happy person.

During this very busy time of year, and the economy at its lowest...
I encourage to take the time to shop around and take advantage of the discounts that are available at many retail and already discounted stores...

Day Eight...

On this beautiful Fall Day, Giving Thanks is for the Day and all that it promises to bring...

I have so many things floating around in my head that need to be completed before Dec. 25th....

I pray God is good to me as I find myself scrambling around trying to bring it all together..!
Yes, even I scramble...those of you who know me personally, I do have my days. I am the planner, but do find myself at times wondering how am I going to get all this accomplished.? By God's good graces, all does come together and get completed.

My week a head is filled with a diverse of activities:
Today I'll be going on my search again to find Mason Jars for a Christmas Project and possibly Cold Pack some Beef for the cold winter months...

Tomorrow I will be spending some time with a dear friend I have known since Middle School Years. She is going through a difficult time, as a friend I feel it's important to give your support in anyway it will be received....

Wednesday I will be meeting with the Children Program Director with my church to discuss Vacation Bible School for next summer. It seems too unreal that we just finished another successful year of VBS and are planning already for next year...

Thursday my calendar is clear, but that can change in a moments notice. I will use that day to catch up on errands and do chores around the home.........Maybe start on some sort of craft. Hence I am in charge of the Christmas Party for my Church, so I have plenty that needs to be done.....

Friday I will be getting together for an early dinner with my Bestest Friend, Kathy. With personal schedules being so demanding and distance, we make a point to meet up at least every 4-6 weeks...I so enjoy being with Kathy, like many of my dear friends...she brings so much "FUN" in to my life...

Saturday I am hosting a Birthday Dinner for my good friend, Paula. She is a single Mother of two very active pre-teens....Being a single working mother she deserves to be a bit pampered on her Special Day...!

I wish for you all to have a good week, have fun and be safe...

Day Seven...

Today Giving Thanks is about the Day in which it is....

Although it was a slow start to the day, the topic at services this morning was about...

"HOPE"

I want to hold on to that message of Hope. Hope brings a new day, a new beginning and a chance to start a new....A wish or desire for a good future, difficult but not obtainable with the help of God....

This is what I believe for myself , my family, my friends and my country....
I have always considered myself to have a strong Faith,
But what is Faith without Hope....???
There Is Always, Hope!

Day Six....

Happy Weekend to all.....
Today I am Giving Thanks for the wonderful gifts God has giving me....
When I put my mind and energies into a project I am usually very pleased at the outcome.
Chocolate Covered Pretzel Sticks were one of several projects for this past week.
I try to do these little projects before the craziness of the Holidays start, so when I prepare my gift baskets I have the homemade items I decided to include in this year's Gift Baskets...
Many friends and family over the years can not wait to see what K's Holiday Basket will include for this years gift and that makes it all the more special....

Day Five....

As I come to the end of a very productive week, I am Giving Thanks today for Health and Family....

My Sister-In-Law lost a cousin last evening to Breast Cancer. This Cousin had been in remission and was excited to find out she was pregnant. During her pregnancy she started having complications and soon lear
ned her cancer had returned. She did give birth to a very healthy precious little girl....

The pictures I have posted are of my youngest Nephew, Keegan. My Sister In Law was pregnant with him at the same time her cousin also was pregnant. In honor of her and all women who have been effected with Breast Cancer, the pictures remind us how precious life is.......

Ladies....Remember to do Self Breast Exams and get your Mammograms...!!!

Day Three.....

I am Giving Thanks today, one day after a very historical presidential election, to those who where not afraid to reach out for a change, did not lose Faith in this country and made their voice and vote count!

Day Two......

To day I am Giving Thanks to being an American...!!!!

In a world so diverse and so many changes for not the good
of the people in so many ways. I am thankful to have a voice

and privilege as an American...!!!!

Day One....

I am starting a "Giving Thanks" Daily blog for the month of November...If you would like to participate, simply copy/past the photo and post it with each "Giving Thanks" posting on your blog......What a great way to remind us all that we have so much to be Thankful for .....

I am most thankful today for.....I was able to provide some help to my Bestest Friend, Kathy in a way to make things easier for her in caring for her mother, who recently had an accident. The appreciation shown and having an excuse to cook and bake, made my weekend!

Brrrrrrrr.....Baby, It's Cold Outside!!

As the Fall is slowly coming to an end, the impeding cold winter months will soon be upon us....

Winter has become my least favorite time of year. Although I have that childlike feeling after the first snow fall of the season, the long dark and cold months of Old Man Winter, that are required in this beautiful state of Pennsylvania, are not my most desired.....

I am the Lady in the restaurant who wears the sweater in 90 degree temperatures ....
I wear flip flops as long as possible, every style and color made to man kind... I hardly ever have my Air Conditioner on while driving, I am the "Fresh Air Girl" as my brother always called me... I never allow the thermostat over 78 degrees on the hottest days of summer..... I am the "Grill" Martha.... I have my deck clothes line sagging by the end of Fall....I sleep with three blankets year round, occasionally applying a fourth....

As I prepare for the cold months a head, I am some what relieved I'll be spending some time in Texas over the Holidays, where the temperatures are more soothing and comforting for this Lady who loves the warmth.......
